The Gauteng province has activated four new COVID-19 vaccination sites on Wednesday.
The Health MEC, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi announced the news. The four new sites are based at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Netcare Milpark Private Hospital, Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital and Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, and are now operational.
These sites will supplement the first two sites, being the Steve Biko Academic Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. This means that the total number of vaccination sites in Gauteng are now six. In this second round of inoculations, Gauteng has been allocated 18 040 doses of vaccines for both the public (13 840) and private sector (4200) healthcare workers.
Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Joe Phaahla, was among those who were vaccinated at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital. Dr. Joe could not stress enough the importance of protecting the healthcare system first in order for the workers to lead from the front in ensuring that many scores of people get vaccinated.
The six Gauteng vaccination sites operate mainly during the week during working hours. If there be any operations during weekends, announcements will be made before hand.
