Five police officers have been arrested during a raid in Vereeniging. It is believed that the arrest is related to the use of drugs.
The raid was led by Member of the Executive Council (MEC) Faith Mazibuko together with Member of the Municipal Council (MMC) for Public Safety Ndade Mokoena along with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.
Mazibuko confirms that the arrest was made at the Vereeniging Taxi Rank following a commotion. He explains, “We had already been to the taxi rank when we heard a commotion. On further inspection, we heard taxi drivers accusing some members of the SAPS with dealing in drugs. We proceeded to search their cars and indeed found drugs.” emphasised that other municipalities also conduct raids in order to reduce crime.
