South Africa has recorded 551 more deaths to its already grim COVID-19 death toll.
The Health Department’s Foster Mohale said that the majority of these deaths were identified during a recent audit exercise to address backlogs.
“Out of the 551 deaths recorded on Thursday, only 45 occurred in the past 48 hours. A few provinces like KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape account for 476 historical, combined deaths in patients with documented COVID-19 infection,” Mohale said.
This puts the known death toll at ninety-two thousand one hundred and twelve (92 112).
