Police report that two suspects were fatally shot and four were arrested during a shootout with the police on the M1 Highway, next to the Woodmead Drive Off ramp in Sandton on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Capatin Mavela Masondo stated, “Members from crime intelligence received information about a robbery that was going to take place in Johannesburg. Police from Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Unit and Johannesburg Flying Squad mobilised themselves and were on alert.”
“Three cars, two Audi A4s and Hyundai i20, with 10 suspects were spotted on the highway. The suspects fired some shots at a white Toyota Fortuner forcing it to stop. Police went after the suspects who fired shots at the police and a shootout ensued.”
Masondo states that two suspects were fatally wounded while four other suspects were arrested on the scene. Masondo also confirmed that one firearm had been recovered and the three cars used by the suspects have been seized. Police are searching for four suspects that are still out and about.
